Myself and my running partner/friend had been planning to run around Mont Blanc for about a year. My father passed away the day before I was set to fly out. Luckily, my running partner took care of adjusting the logistics so I could take a couple of days to be with the family.

I was conflicted about whether or not to bag the trip all-together but made the decision to go. I was glad that I did.

I had a lot of time to think about him on the Trail du Mont Blanc. Anyone who's spent long periods of time on the trail, whether it be hiking or running, knows it's not time spent running away from things but a truly immersive mental state. Often just you and your thoughts and emotions. I thought a lot about my dad's methods to be a positive influence. He was a man a few words, rather, provided guidance through example. He lived his life so content, without want, the highest form of happiness. His work ethic was incredible and while it was clear he expected no less from me, he rarely lectured or scolded me. I just knew. He somehow figured out how to inspire me to be my best self with very few words.

The physical and emotional exhaustion after his death made me second guess whether or not I should attempt the Tour de Mont Blanc. I went anyway and find it funny that even his passing, he pushed me. We ended up condensing our schedule from 5 days to completing the 170 K journey in just 4. Thanks Dad.
